The Pendant vs Chain topic I've been having with you all has come to a conclusion- you spoke and I listened! You can now purchase any of my free-moving, sterling or gold-fill pendants (like the ones pictured) with or without chain.
See, over the last year precious metal prices have been increasing on a pretty steady climb; then just before the '25 holiday market season prices raised more dramatically. It's been a difficult time for jewelers out there- if you know any personally, you know we're not ok- and many of us are doing our best to work within these new frontiers and not shutter our small businesses.
Many of my simple Hammered Hoops pendant necklaces like you see here were once a low to moderately priced piece of jewelry (they still are in comparison to my statement pieces), I didn't think twice about cutting a chain to length and making hundreds of clasps to make a chain for each and every pendant. But now with the precious metal prices being what they are... a simple 18-20 inch chain can be almost as much as the pendant itself; and in some cases the same price or more!
Meanwhile, personally for years I've just have two chains that I swap out 3-5 pendants in my own jewelry box. I did that as to not dip into my supplies, but it didn't occur to me to offer it to my customers until recently!
Now, I can only speak for MY designs here- but it's pretty easy to slip one of my pedant designs off its chain and strand another one on it. I even did a little video-carousal post on it recently, check it out on Facebook or Instagram.
I love the idea to mix + match your pendants, working with a couple chains of different lengths, styles, metals to customize your look, and it also lends a bit of sustainability to the mix as we're not over-consuming dozens and dozens of chains just for one pendant.
Bonus is now I'm also not spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on spools of chains and can instead invest my funds into cool gemstones, new tools, workshops to amp up my skills, and just overhead of running a small business.
Not to mention, you'll save a pretty penny by working with your own chain you already have- maybe it's from one of my necklaces already! Or- if you don't have a chain already but have your eye on a few pendants, considering purchasing one chain and a mix of pendants- you'll see where the savings adds up quickly when you do!
In closing, this is a working plan- I'll be moving forward with this pricing solution through the remainder of 2026 and it will be offered online and in-person at my booth during upcoming festivals and markets. Now that I've done the leg work and everything is separated BTS I'm personally liking this plan and think it's going to work splendidly for us both! However, if it winds up a nightmare and ya'll end up hating it, or magically silver and gold prices go back to a lower rate- I'll switch it right back.
